We have weekly chapter-wide general meetings where we cover various topics. We also hold many special events for professional development, community service, chapter bonding, socials with other professional fraternities, and more.

How does PhiDE stand out from other pre-medical organizations?

4

PhiDE is one of the largest and most well-connected, inclusive pre-medical organizations in the country. At UCSB, PhiDE is the only exclusively pre-medical fraternity on campus. PhiDE creates a community of students who share the same academic activities working towards the same goal: becoming a physician. We offer many valuable opportunities including volunteering, medical school workshops, discussions with current medical students and physicians as well as fraternal camaraderie to aid you along your journey.

What sorts of organizations are other PhiDE members involved in?

PhiDE members are involved across campus in clubs, sports, research, social sororities and fraternities, service organizations, and honors societies to name a few. We pride ourselves in the broad interests and talents of our members.

Nationally, the medical school acceptance rate for PhiDE members is around 92%, more than double the overall national rate of acceptance of 41% (Princeton Review, 2019).

PhiDE’s largest event is the Gelfand Lecture where physicians within the community are invited to speak on their experiences and expertise. We also work in tandem with Children’s Miracle Network Hospital to raise money for children’s families. PhiDE also offers volunteering and social events to bring ourselves closer to the community and each other.

7

What type of events does PhiDE host?

What are some benefits for PhiDE alumni?

8

Phi Delta Epsilon membership continues if you attend one of the many medical schools that have PhiDE chapters. Additionally, members can request to be interviewed by other PhiDE members at a medical school and can request to stay with PhiDE members during medical school visits. PhiDE alumni continually give to give back to the chapter by passing on resources, opportunities, and advice to current members.

Does PhiDE do any community outreach?

9

Every quarter, our chapter comes together to give back to the local community and organizations. Not only is service incredibly rewarding, but it also builds the connection between the members of our chapter by leaving a positive impact on the community around us while making valuable memories with fellow members.

Does PhiDE support any philanthropies?

10

Phi Delta Epsilon believes in giving back to our global community. Our international philanthropic and service partner is Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) Hospitals. There are more than 170 Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals worldwide. Every year, these hospitals treat 17 million children for every disease and injury imaginable. Collectively they impact the lives of more children than any other children's organization in the world. Each PhiDE chapter partners with a local CMN Hospital to volunteer and fundraise. Our chapter at UCSB is partnered with Cottage Children's Medical Center in Santa Barbara. We support the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in many ways, including writing cards for patients, fundraising, and hosting our annual Anatomy Fashion Show.
